5 Questions with Ant, our strategy director

Our new strategy director Ant joins us with a CV packed full of experience getting under the skin of brands and understanding what makes them tick. We sit down with him to find out more about his career highlights so far, his advice for new people entering the industry and more!

Why Pearl Comms?

I’ve followed Pearl’s journey for a number of years. I was introduced to Alia by a mutual client, and we’ve been friends ever since. Sharing experiences, insights and laughs along the way. We’ve discussed working together multiple times, but the timings were never right for one reason or another. However, the stars aligned recently, and I’m now part of team Pearl Comms. I bring new skills and loads of experience to what is already a phenomenal team.  Alia’s a real powerhouse and has built something special here, I can’t wait to see what comes next.

What three words would describe the office?

Passionate, intelligent, collaborative.

What’s your biggest work achievement so far?

I’ve honestly had the most amazing career. The fact I’ve worked across so many different sectors has opened many personal development opportunities and enabled me to consistently grow. I’ve been lucky to work for a media powerhouse in Trinity Mirror, one of the world’s finest orchestras in the CBSO, and my home City’s Destination marketing agency, Marketing Birmingham, now the West Midland’s Growth Company. My biggest achievement, however, has probably been in the agency space where I’ve been involved in the growth of a number of specialist agencies and clients through brand projects.

What advice would you give to anyone starting a career in the agency world?

Whatever level you are, don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’ve been luckily to work with some seriously talented agency folk, and I’ve learnt something new off all of them. It’s also the best way to build relationships with your colleagues.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

Ohhh I’ve been lucky enough to see some unbelievable talent live over the years. Stevie Wonder, Usher, Britney Spears, John Legend to name a few but the best live experience was probably seeing Elvis and the royal philharmonic orchestra. Though the Belinda Carlisle, Runaway Horses Tour 1990 will always hold a special place in my heart.
