5 questions with Becky, our content manager

When she’s not working on insightful industry white papers, she’s drafting thought leadership articles that are engaging, topical and thought-provoking – meet Becky, our very own content queen.

We sat down with her to discuss everything from her biggest achievement, to what trends have caught her eye at the moment.

Since we last spoke to you, what’s your biggest work achievement?

My biggest achievement is a campaign I’ve recently worked on which is helping to raise awareness about Martyn’s Law. The centrepiece of the campaign was a white paper, which we wrote and designed and then promoted with a comprehensive media campaign, comprising of press releases, podcasts and thought leadership articles.

Not only was this an interesting subject and a successful campaign, but it was a really important topic for our client. We managed to plan activity that was impactful and is helping to educate venues on a really important issue.

Another highlight is when I was invited to talk to students in the Marketing Society at the University of Birmingham to talk about careers. I think sometimes B2B careers aren’t as widely talked about as B2C, so it was wonderful to share my experience and talk about the amazing things you can do in this industry.

Speaking of university students, what piece of advice would you give to someone entering the industry?

PR, marketing and comms can be a competitive industry, so it’s important to make yourself stand out. I recommend getting as much experience as possible, whether it’s through the traditional route such as work experience or internships, or starting your own portfolio.

I personally started writing a blog when I was at university, which I then used as my portfolio when applying for jobs. This not only showed off the quality of my writing, but also proved I had a genuine passion for it.

What PR trends are you seeing that are most exciting for you right now?

Currently, I’m seeing more of an interest in long-form content. As AI becomes more normalised in our day-to-day lives, people are craving real human experiences. We’re seeing this play out right now as founders sharing experiences are becoming more popular, podcasts are still going strong, and even reading as a hobby has been revived through TikTok’s ‘analogue’ trend.

It’s clear people are happy to sit and listen to an hour-long video or read a 1,000 word article as long as it’s interesting. Short form content will always have its place of course, but right now I’m seeing more people wanting something more substantial. All you need is a great story.

What’s your current favourite movie?

I loved the Barbie movie – I watched it recently and it still holds up. However, at the time it was more than a film. Everyone was wearing pink to the cinema, the soundtrack was on the radio constantly, and every brand was doing a ‘Barbie’ collaboration, from make up to luggage. The movie became a moment – a very fun, bright pink moment.

What’s keeping you busy outside of work?

I’m making an effort to decrease my screen time, so I’ve joined a book club. We’re currently reading a dystopian novel called The Parable of the Sowerby Octavia E Butler and I’m really enjoying it so far.

I’ve also recently taken up vinyl record collecting. The coolest one I own is Lady Gaga’s album, Mayhem, which has orange and blue liquid inside the vinyl itself. This means when it’s spinning on the record player it looks a bit like a lava lamp.
