5 questions with Hannah, our account director

We sat down with the most recent addition to our team, Account Director Hannah, to learn more about her life both in and out of work.

What was it about Pearl Comms that made you want to work here?

I actually admired Pearl Comms from afar for a while, so when it was time to look for my next senior role, it seemed like the perfect fit. I wanted somewhere that I could keep growing my skills, work with a client roster that aligned with my interests and be part of an ambitious, forward-thinking agency. Pearl Comms ticks all those boxes and more.

What’s your biggest work achievement?

Definitely winning a PRCA Dare award for a campaign I created. An ambitious project, it was designed around securing national media coverage, mainly through reactive comment and expert profiling, to raise awareness and position the client as a leader in its industry. We already knew the campaign was a success, as we had surpassed the KPIs and received glowing feedback from the client, but winning an award was the icing on the cake.

What advice would you give someone entering the industry?

I have two main pieces of advice for those looking to break into PR. Firstly, read the news from multiple sources. An interest in the media, journalism, current events and politics is essential for any PR job regardless of whether it’s agency, in-house, B2B, B2C, etc.

Secondly, don’t be afraid to speak up. Entering an industry for the first time can be incredibly daunting, making it hard to give your thoughts and opinions – especially in front of senior team members or a client. However, saying what you think is the best way to learn, grow in confidence and build stronger relationships with who you work with. It’s difficult, but worth it.

What keeps you busy outside of work?

I have quite a few hobbies, including crafts, gardening and reading, but my most time-consuming and rewarding by far is cosplay, which is where you create and wear costumes of your favourite characters. I attend around eight conventions across the UK every year, and I try to make a new character every few months or so.

My most complimented costume to date is Lady from the video game Devil May Cry – my husband even created some of the props with his 3D printer to complete the outfit. I’m looking at entering some competitions next year, so stay tuned for my next look!

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been too?

The best concert I’ve ever been to was actually only last week! This past weekend I was lucky enough to see My Chemical Romance at Wembley with my friends. It was a sold-out show, so the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.
